FAQ’s

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the most well-known part of the medicine I practice called Traditional Chinese Medicine.  Acupuncture involves the stimulation of specific energetic points on the body, scalp, and ears.  These points are stimulated in order to unblock pain, balance the body, and restore vitality to the patient.

How does it work?

This system of medicine is based on the idea that disease, pain, and/or illness represents imbalance in the body.  A variety of modalities, including acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, nutritional and lifestyle coaching are all used to restore the balance to the body.

Does it hurt?

Imagine a droplet of cold rain falling onto your hot skin during a summer shower.  This is similar to what patients feel during an acupuncture session.  Treatments are commonly referred to as ’relaxing’ — in fact, many of my patients doze off during sessions, and leave feeling dreamy and renewed.

How many sessions will I need?

Most patients will have noticeable changes in their illness within 4-6 treatments.  The number of treatments needed in total depends on the patients expected outcome, the way that the patient responds to treatment, and the willingness of the patient to comply with treatment plans.  Treatment plans are individualized, and the patient and practitioner will work together to determine what treatment course is needed.

How much does it cost?

Insurance will gladly be billed if you have acupuncture coverage under your plan.  If you have any questions about this, you can call and I will be happy to check your coverage for you.

If you do not have insurance coverage and are paying at the time of service, you can expect to pay $100* for the first treatment (1.5 hours), and $60* for follow-up appointments (1 hour).  Nutritional sessions are offered for existing patients at the cost of $45 per 30 minute consultation (insurance will not cover this cost).

*This represents a 20% discount off of regular prices if the patient pays at the time of service.  We gladly accept Visa, Mastercard (credit or debit), personal check or cash.  If you need to set up a payment plan, the prices would be $120 for the first visit and $75 for each additional visit.
